Mom is Home
Mother came home last night. She is tolerating her trachea tube and all of her vital signs are good, so they sent her home. We have the usual home care nurses, therapist, nurses aides etc. the next few weeks to help out.
Our plan, after consulting her doctors, is to go downtown to the gamma knife doctor to see if he thinks the tumor in her upper chest can be reduced with the gamma knife. The reason to do this is not to be heroic and go for a cure, but the tumor is in a spot that might grow under the trachea and cut off her air and then we're back to the problem of choking. The gamma knife is usually only two sessions, and if mother can tolerate it, it might be worth the shot to give her a little better quality of life as we go forward. After that, as of now, and thing are always subject to change, we don't plan on doing much else.
We see her doctors next week to get the stitches out, I might know more by then.

Information on Mom in the Hospital
Here is the latest from Pat Bradley -
Last night mother had hard time breathing. We went to the ER about 5 a.m. It was determined that something had to be done that day, sooner the better. The partner of her ENT surgeon took her to the operating room and found out that mother's vocal chords were now totally paralyzed and that she was breathing through a very small opening. The best idea was to put a trachea tube in to give her a clear breathing path.
This was all discussed before and mother agreed to do this. The last thing she said to surgeon in the operating room was "I can't breath do something."
The operation was a success. Mother seemed to come through it well. Hopefully, she will only be in the hospital a week. It will take time to adjust to the trachea tube. But it's something we will do. It does settle any questions about her choking, which is good. No one should ever choke.
Mother has been lethargic the last couple weeks or so and now she gets a full blast of oxygen which has put a rosy hue back into her cheek. And, if were lucky, a spring in her step.
I'll let you know more, when I know more,

Debbie and I attended a church dance over the weekend. The program committee decided to have a "prom dance" for a spring activity. Debbie and I got dressed up. My date was beautiful!
Sue and Ron were there too.
Disco is back!
While I was looking for pictures I came across on old picture of Mom when she had a storefront in Italy.
And finally a group of us outside the Coliseum a few years ago.
Jeni & Scott in Las Vegas
So I know it's easy to just copy and paste the posting from my own little family blog to this one, but I'm feeling lazy, so you'll just have to go to the link www.sjbennion.blogspot.com to see about our long weekend in Las Vegas at the Mountain West Conference tournament. We had a GREAT time!

It only took me until now to figure out how to get back on to this blog and I'm not sure i can do it again (i had to retype this one three times).

Grandma We are in Oz Too!
When I saw that Grandma was saying hello from the Land of Oz, I couldn't resist sharing this picture.
For the past few years, I have had the desire to dress up as the Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz for Halloween, so I finally decided to take action. Since I was going to be the Scarecrow, Diana decided she wanted to be a Wizard of Oz character too. Instead of going for an obvious choice like Dorothy or the Wicked Witch of the West, she opted for one of the flying monkeys.
With only one member of the apartment left to join the theme, the Cowardly Lion was the obvious choice for Faye, our dog, because it fits her personality so well.
So Grandma if you are in fact in the Land of Oz, you must be Glenda the Good Witch of the North because everybody loves you!
Love,
Kevin

Grandma's cloud birthday
Posting these pictures is long overdue, but finally you can see Mom/Grandma/Aunt Dot enjoying her cloud-themed birthday. I also added the festa when Grandma returned to her bowling league days. Lots of great gifts and cards (although I think Kate took off with the cloud book that Jeni sent). Cindy made the blanket and Amy the pillow. Hats by Nate. Who did I miss? Another book from Pat and Deb--bellissima!
Guess they just stay because of Dorothy Grace.
Bennion Family update

my blog
I've decided to build a blog of my own, it's just mine...Jenn's. It will most likely be pretty full of my political (conservative) views because I feel like I need a place to journal and vent. If you'd like to visit and comment, please feel free to do so.

I'm still in meadville PA (going on 13yrs) and have only animals to brag about....D.O.G., Barroness Ruff And Tumble commonly known as BRAT and tink, i have also had the pleasure of keeping Sam (bro john's choc lab) until he gets settled in Juno Alaska. I'm going to try to add a picture but I can't promise it will work! Hey Jane is not the only one turning 50 this year!!!!!!!! tina
Bennion Family
Thanks to you all for an incredible visit in PA last weekend. Keri, Millie and I had such a wonderful time. When I get the pictures from her computer, I'll post some. OR, since others of you have the same ones, you can post some too! Instead of posting a bunch of pictures of my little family, I'll just give you my blog: www.sjbennion.blogspot.com.
Jim and I don't have any kids so I've just posted pictures of our pets, instead. Dot is our two-year-old beagle/terrier mix. She's a handful but we love her to death. Our cats, Osborne (light colored) and Smalls (dark colored) are about the nicest cats of all time. The picture of Jim and I is from Christmas 2008 at my parents house in Thornton, Colorado.

Pat Campbell Family
I know that many of you know each other but I suspect that some of you don't know everybody in the Campbell family. At least I will admit I wouldn't recognize some of you. So I am going to lead off by telling you about my kids. The picture I have uploaded is about 4 years old now but it does show Debbie's and my kids. Our step-son Tim is married to Mariclaire and they live in New York. They have a young boy named Liam. Next is Mike and our step-daughter Gina. They have two kids - Wesley and Josephine. The live in Greensburg, PA close to Pittsburgh. Next is my lovely wife Debbie. She and I live in Pittsburgh. Keith is a junior at Penn State. Kevin lives in Alexandria, VA. Amy is married to Dave and they live in Annapolis, MD. Debbie will post pictures of our grandkids soon I am sure. I enjoyed looking at Scott's new arrival.
I hope through this blog we will all get to know each other a little better because of our common bond of family. If you have few minutes please post a picture and let us see what your branch of the family looks like.

THE NEWEST CAMPBELL PRINCESS...
Mom's Report
Mother went to her oncologist today. He was pleased with how she looked. Her lungs are clear, her blood pressure is good and she is not in any pain. He agreed we should go to the radiologist and explore the idea of mother getting radiation on the tumors in her chest since the radiation had worked on removing the cancer from her throat.
If you recall this was always our plan. To see if the radiation worked on her throat, and if it did, we would have a "tool" to use against any other tumors. The oncologist also said the original tumor in her chest, which was discovered over a year ago, has not grown very much and is relatively small.
Since she has growths on her liver, they drew blood and from what they could see in the office, it looked good, but we will know more when the lab work comes back. This will give us a benchmark to work from in the future. We go back to the oncologist in six weeks.
We are scheduled to go see her radiologist in two weeks or so for her six month check up. When I talked to him six months ago, we had decided then to discuss in March whether to do further radiation. If we do radiation, it will be downtown where they have a special machine. And it won't be as many treatments as before. After we see the radiologist and decide the next step I'll let you know.
Mother felt good about today's visit. So did I.
take care,
Pat Bradley

Compliments to Patrick!
I'm impressed. We just talked ab0ut this idea last night at dinner. And bro Pat has already initiated it. Now we just have to get Grandma wired. By the way, Mom, just remember who won at cards last night!
We have two important events this month. Nate is turning 30, and Jane is turning half a century old. We are going to birthday celebrate with Nate and Ryan in Denver in April for Easter if anyone can join us. As for sis Jane, she is on the docket for a girls' night out when she is in Pittsburgh--the weekend after Easter. That is an event not to be missed, ---Amy, join us! We miss you. Anyone else want to surprise her? Oh, now it isn't a surprise. . .
Love you all!
Suzie
